Andrew Kauffman, Senior Associate Director of the Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, was awarded the Superior Safety Award through the College of Engineering and Knowlton School of Architecture.  Due to COVID-19, winners were announced via email rather than at the Employee Appreciation Luncheon.

Andrew’s strong leadership skills were identified in the award, “Andrew has made significant contributions to support a culture of safety at the Nuclear Reactor Lab through his leadership and commitment to safety”. His nomination further states that Andrew “has prioritized the health and safety of the workers at the NRL by ensuring everyone is appropriately trained and adequate safety measures are in place to reduce risk”.

The staff of the NRL are pleased that Andrew’s continuous efforts to keep everyone safe and his 21 years of service at The Ohio State University Nuclear Reactor Laboratory were acknowledged by the university.

As the only operating research reactor currently in the State of Ohio, the NRL is a unique teaching and research laboratory that delivers high quality service to its customers and excellent instruction and research opportunities to nuclear engineering students. In 2017, the DOE designated the NRL as a partner facility of the NSUF program, allowing awarded researchers, often in collaboration with other laboratories and industry, to perform DOE mission-supporting research at the NRL at no cost to the researchers.
